Daniel Menzo’s research focuses on the varied histories and transnational practices of photography. Prior to joining Stony Brook’s program, he worked as a Collections and Exhibitions Registrar at the New York Transit Museum, as well as a Digitization Specialist at the University of Rochester’s Digital Scholarship Lab. He completed his MA in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management at the University of Rochester, in partnership with the George Eastman Museum. For his MA thesis, “Variations on a Wide Theme,” he conducted object-based research on a selection of nineteenth-century panoramic photographs from the George Eastman Museum’s collection. Daniel’s additional research interests include the history of projection, spatial theory and critical geography, optical toys, materiality, Latin American visual culture, and the history of museums.
