CAASMA STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
—---------------------------------------
I chose to enroll in the CAAS Master's program at Stony Brook University because it
offers unparalleled opportunities to explore intercultural communication through in-depth
research and dynamic learning experiences. From the moment I joined, I felt welcomed
into a supportive community where professors go above and beyond to guide and inspire
students. Their approachability and encouragement have made me feel truly valued,
fostering an environment where I can thrive academically and personally.
What sets this program apart is its emphasis on making a tangible impact. Here, we are not just learning concepts; we are actively applying them to real-world challenges, collaborating with professors to develop and expand the department. This hands-on approach has empowered me to contribute meaningfully to the community while gaining practical skills that will prepare me for a successful career. (Current student)

They[The professors] are incredibly supportive of the student's individual interests but also encourage their pupils to go outside of their comfort zone without pushing too hard. The great amount of support helps contribute to a low stress environment where the student can feel comfortable in achieving their goals at their own pace. (Alumni)

When I first began to study AAS, I became aware of the plethora of social issues that continue to plague our world, particular in parts of Asia. In the CAAS program, I have become fully aware of the problems facing the Asian world today, and my research projects have helped me to explore these issues in more detail. My ultimate goal is to become a policy analyst, focusing specifically on social and economic issues that affect the poor and middle classes. My professors in the CAAS program believe I have the knowledge and temperament for this career and have encouraged me in my pursuits. The knowledge and practical experiences I have gained through the CAAS program will be instrumental as I pursue this career. (Alumni)

I chose this program because the available courses and the faculty research interests aligned with mine; a strong passion for language learning and teaching!
While I've only been here a short time, I'm greatly enjoying the program. Like I said, the courses greatly align with my research interests. I get detailed feedback on my assignments, my instructors are caring, understanding, and quick to reply, and I'm already feeling closer to achieving my academic and professional goals.
In my time here, I want to get to know the faculty, staff and students of the department better, improve my Japanese ability, gain professional experience/do experiential learning, and get more involved in campus events. I'd really like to create more Japanese study resources, such as study-buddy groups or conversation groups (Similar to the Spanish Conversation Cafe)!
I'm currently a GA in the Academic Success and Tutoring Center on campus! I also love to attend Crochet Club events, as crochet and knitting are my favorite hobbies. I'd like to get involved with the English Pal program!
