My training in synthetic organic chemistry began in 2014 as an undergraduate in the lab of Philip J. Costanzo at the California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo with the preparation and evaluation of thermally responsive polymers incorporating reversible Diels-Alder bonds in their main chains. An interest in photochemistry was subsequently kindled during graduate research at Oklahoma State University in 2018, centered around the remarkable reactivity derived from trans-cycloalkenes generated from energy-transfer photocatalysis. I am most interested in developing green photochemical methods in organic synthesis for the preparation of medicinally relevant small molecules.
Why I chose to join Stony Brook IRACDA: I want to pursue research as an instructor, but my experience thus far has been limited to peer-mentorships. The IRACDA program represents an opportunity to diversify and grow to become more suitable to teaching.
