CEWIT 2021 Conference
The 17th annual CEWIT 2021 Conference was held virtually on November 3 & 4, 2021. The Conference was organized by the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) located at Stony Brook University and co-hosted by the IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology.
“More than ever the challenges and opportunities in front of us today will benefit from a strong engagement between academic, industry, and government colleagues,” said Dr. Jon Longtin, the Interim Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Dr. Longton did introductory remarks the first day of the event. CEWIT 2021 united 29 expert speakers representing industry, academia, and governmental agencies who shared their cutting-edge research, expertise, insight and analytics in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, Infrastructure and Cybersecurity, and Computerized Medicine.
The focus of the conference recognizes the importance of incorporating technologies of the future into our present life, and that the digital mindset will persist and become core to both survival and innovation. Artificial Intelligence and data science, machine learning, new educational technologies, computerized medicine, Internet of Things, cybersecurity and blockchain – all these areas of industry and research have more and more impact in our today’s world. CEWIT 2021 is internationally known as a premier forum for presentations of cutting-edge research in all of these industries of the future, as well as for exchange and transfer of emerging technologies to commercial use.
Stony Brook University President, Dr. Maurie McInnis, said in her closing remarks that the CEWIT Conference series has become a “symbol of the university, the state, the country, and the world’s enthusiasm for an innovative and connective future.”
Several hundred people across multiple time zones joined the virtual conference. During the two-day event, attendees could attend multiple presentations and panels which were streaming live on a custom-built virtual platform, which included the parallel sessions, an exhibit floor and an interactive networking opportunity.
For some of the participants and attendees, it might have been their first CEWIT Conference to attend. But it was the last conference organized by outstanding researcher, university distinguished professor, and CEWIT’s Medical Technologies Director, Dr. Shmuel Einav, who has been Conference Chair since the series began in 2004, and for 17 years has overseen the quality and success of the event. Dr. Einav retired after the conference in November. (see “staff highlight”)
CEWIT continues to advance its mission of developing applied research, of building relations with industry and academic partners, and of focusing on creating practical solutions in this new and ever-changing world; and the CEWIT 2022 Conference will bring us even more new insights into the technologies of the future, as the future is what this conference is all about.
