Graduation Information and Requirements
For all program specific graduation requirements, please refer to the Graduate Bulletin.
Master's Degree Requirements
- At least 30 credits of graduate work, specific credit amounts is determined by the program.
- Thesis must be submitted to the Graduate School (if required by program) by the posted deadline. Review Guidelines
Doctoral Degree Requirements
- Must be advanced to candidacy (G5 status) for at least one year prior to graduating. (At least one semester for DMA students.)
- Committee Approval Request form must be submitted to Graduate School by the program four weeks prior to the defense date.
- Download and complete the Doctoral Defense Announcement form. Email the completed form to your graduate program director (GPD) for review and approval. The GPD or designated delegate should then submit the announcement to the Graduate School via Google Form at least three weeks prior to the proposed defense date as a PDF labeled following the format LastName_FirstName_Month202X_ddd.pdf. Announcement will be posted once approved. Delay in submission may require second defense of dissertation.
- Final dissertation must be submitted to the Graduate School within three months of a successful defense or by the semester deadline on the Graduate School calendar, whichever comes first. If a student intends to graduate they must submit by posted deadline.
- Complete the Survey of Earned Doctorates.
Resources
Required to graduate regardless of participating in commencement ceremonies. Students completing their master's and doctoral degrees must apply for graduation for their master's degrees.
