Interests: Andean history, nationalism, education, social movements, peasant politics, race, science, geopolitics
My current research looks at the intersection between peasant politics, race, science, and nation-building efforts through the history of rural education in twentieth-century Peru. It focuses on Andean peasant communities, particularly in the region of Ayacucho, epicenter of the civil war between the Shining Path guerrilla and the Peruvian Armed Forces (1980-2000).
