6th and 7th grade program is designed to be hands on and will include math activities that will engage and build confidence. Students will practice and increase their math skills by working on real world problems that are both fun and challenging. Students participating in these programs should be interested in math, inquisitive, and willing to work hard to learn something new!
The program will focus on: Introduction to Algebra, Fun with Geometry, Fluency and Operations with Rational Numbers, Real World Statistics, and an Introduction to Probability.
8th and 9th grade program: High School Math classes center on the study of functions. Students will investigate linear, quadratic and exponential functions through engaging hands on activities. These activities will help build their understanding of the key concepts they will continue to encounter in their high school careers. Students will also build or reinforce the critical skills needed for high school math such as factoring and operations with real numbers. Students will leave with a math experience which fosters a deeper understanding of core concepts of high school Algebra.
In order to get the most out of this program, we strongly encourage students to be entering a high school level Algebra class in 8th grade or to have finished Algebra in 8th grade. Students who are taking Algebra as 9th graders will not have the background knowledge needed to understand the activities.
6th and 7th grade program instructors: TBD
8th and 9th grade program instructors: Mark Cimino
