Born December 28, 1925 in New York City to Theodore and Gladys Feldmann, she received her early academic training at Queens College and there developed a lifelong passion for Latin-American Literature. She received a Master's degree in Latin-American Studies from Colombia University. Around 1947, Harth was offered an instructorship in the department of Modern Languages at Syracuse University. There she received a PhD with a dissertation on Jorge Carrera Andrade, the Ecuadorian author.
Harth became interested in the Farm Workers Movement led by Cesar Chavez and there discovered a rich source of native and original writing that became known as Chicano Literature. She authored an anthology of Chicano Literature titled Voices of Aztlan. She was invited to join the faculty of the newly formed Onondaga Community College, attaining the rank of Professor of Modern Languages. There she also founded a Women's Studies Program that she directed for many years. (Source: obits.syracuse.com)
