Extent,Scope, and Content Note The collection comprises 4 linear inches of press clips, subject files, reports, and
statements collected by Roy Millenson during his tenure as a staff member under United
States Senator Jacob K. Javits. The date coverage is 1951 to 1973.
Positions Millenson held included: Legislative and Press Assistant to Representative Jacob
K. Javits, January 1949 through October 1955; Legislative Assistant, Administrative
Assistant, Executive Assistant to Senator Jacob K. Javits, January 1957 through October
1959; and Minority Staff Director, Senate Committee on Labor and Public Welfare, February
1965 through December 1974.

Historical Note A native of Washington, DC and graduate of George Washington University, Roy H. Millenson
served in the Persian Gulf Command of the Army Air Corps during World War II before
eventually returning to Washington and working as a staff member on Capitol Hill.
He was a member of Senator Jacob K. Javits' staff from 1949 to 1974.
While a senior Senate staffer, he helped originate and push through landmark legislation
related to the education of gifted children and the handicapped, as well as laws establishing
the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities and the National Science Foundation.
As Washington representative of the American Jewish Committee and on the Hill, he
worked to rescue Iraqi Jews, fight anti-Semitism and support Israel.
