Extent, Scope, and Content Note
The collection is comprised of one album (1 linear ft.) containing photographs of Jane Howard Perkins (1912-2011) and her family including her father Roy Wilson Howard (1883-1964). The album also includes loose photographs, newspaper clippings, and ephemera. The date coverage is circa 1922 to 1958 and the scope of geographic documentation includes Italy, Spain, Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Japan.

Historical Note
Jane Howard Perkins (1912-2011) was a resident of Old Field, Setauket, New York. She was born on December 27, 1912 to Roy Wilson Howard (1883-1964) and Margaret Rohe Howard, and raised in New York City. Educated at the Spence School and Rosemary Hall, she later graduated cum laude from Radcliffe College. Perkins studied archaeology at Radcliffe (Harvard) and participated in early excavations at Chichen Itza. “Working for the Honolulu Advertiser in the late 1930s, she traveled on Pan Am’s maiden trans-Pacific flight, where she interviewed Madame Chiang Kai-Shek and gave an eyewitness account of the Japanese bombing of China.” She died on October 13, 2011.

Roy Wilson Howard (1883-1964) was born on January 1, 1883 in Gano, Ohio and died on November 20, 1964 in Manhattan, New York City. He was chair­man of the executive committee of the Scripps‐Howard News­papers, one of the largest newspaper empires in the United States and retired as editor of The New York World‐Tele­gram and The Sun on August 31, 1960. Family members included: Margaret Rohe Howard, a former reporter, whom he mar­ried in 1909; a son, Jack R. How­ard, president and director of the Scripps‐Howard Newspa­pers; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Howard Perkins, wife of Capt. Albert Carson Perkins, U.S.N., retired, and five grandchildren, Michael and Pamela Howard and Jennifer, Timothy and An­thony Perkins.
