Challenge Exams allow students to place into a language class and/or to meet Stony Brook's SBC: LANG for languages for which an FLPE exam is not offered. Challenge Exams also allow students to challenge select language courses for credit, and to earn the corresponding SBCs.
Hindi Challenge Exam
Hindi challenge exams are administered during the fall and spring semesters on specific dates that will be established at the beginning of each semester.
FALL '24 Exam Dates:
This challenge exam is for the language SBC -- [LANG] -- and costs $50. If you pass the exam, you will not receive credits on your transcript, however you will receive the SBC for [LANG]. In some cases and with permission, students can challenge other HIN courses.
The Challenge Exam consists of four parts:
-
- speaking
- understanding
- reading
- writing
The level expected on the exam is that of someone graduating from high school. The student must be able to translate freely from the challenge language to English and vice-versa. Students should be fully versed in grammar, not use any English words in their speaking and writing, and use correct spelling.
If you do not read or write the language, you cannot take the Challenge Exam.
