A Moment of Reflection and Remembrance
September 8, 2023
To the Stony Brook Campus Community,
This coming Monday, in communities throughout New York state, across our nation and
around the world, people will pause to remember the tragic events of 9/11. On Monday,
the campus chimes will ring 21 times at 8:46 am. Members of our campus community are
invited to place a commemorative flower or flag amongst the grove of trees planted
at the Memorial Arch near the Humanities Building as a way to remember, celebrate
the lives, and grow the legacies of the 21 Stony Brook alumni who were among those
lost on that terrible day and whose names are engraved on the Memorial Arch.
On what may be a difficult day for many of our colleagues and classmates, it is my
hope that the support of our campus community can offer comfort and healing in the
days to come.
Sincerely,
Maurie McInnis
President
