Brock, Lownes is a first-year Ph.D. student interested in media aesthetics and the history of modern art with a particular emphasis on the history of sculpture. He received his Master of Arts Program in the Humanities (MAPH) at the University of Chicago. His MA thesis was on Claes Oldenburg’s use of Geometric Mouse motif across a variety of two and three-dimensional media. Brock has held curatorial internships at the Parrish Museum of Art in Watermill and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Most recently he published a review on Hyperallergic titled “The Illusive, Intimate Nature of Mary Corse’s Paintings.” Prospective applicants, feel free to contact me with questions about studying the Department of Art or Stony Brook in general.
