AGEP PUI Alliance                                                 

The NSF AGEP Predominately Undergraduate Institutions (PUI) Alliance program brings together Stony Brook University, Farmingdale State College, Suffolk County Community College and Brookhaven National Laboratory with the goal of developing, implementing, studying, institutionalizing, evaluating and disseminating a model focusing on career development for historically underrepresented minority (URM) doctoral degree students in STEM, who successfully transition into early-career STEM faculty positions at PUIs, or who enter postdoctoral STEM scholar positions and then transition into early-career STEM faculty positions at PUIs. The AGEP PUI Alliance works with URM doctoral degree students, postdoctoral scholars and early career faculty to provide them with mentoring, professional development training, and the teaching pedagogy skills necessary to succeed in academic faculty positions.

Bridge to the Doctorate Fellowship

The goal of the NSF Bridge to the Doctorate Program is to increase the number of underrepresented minority students admitted into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) graduate programs. Bridge to the Doctorate fellows receive a two-year stipend, a tuition scholarship, fee coverage, and health insurance. Fellows are also given specialized academic support in the way of tutoring and writing and exam workshops. 

GEM Fellowship

The National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc. is a unique and powerful connection to a national network of universities and employers. This partnership promotes the participation of underrepresented groups in post-graduate science and engineering education and the technical workforce. The employees shaping our nation's ability to remain a global leader in innovation and economic prosperity must fully utilize the talents of all Americans and reflect the country's changing demographics.

IMSD-MERGE

The Stony Brook University Initiative for Maximizing Student Development: Maximizing Excellence in Research for Graduate Education (IMSD-MERGE) Program aims to increase the number of underrepresented students (URM) completing highly productive biological and biomedical science degrees at Stony Brook University, and prepare them for seamless advancement into successful research careers. 

Stony Brook IRACDA

Stony Brook’s IRACDA Program is one of 19 Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) sites funded across the United States by the NIH. IRACDA Postdoctoral Scholars are selected for their promise in academic careers and their commitment to increasing diversity in the academy. Scholars engage in research at Stony Brook and receive teaching experience at minority-serving partner institutions.  Scholars also receive general and individualized pedagogical training and become part of a national network of scientist-teachers.

REU Site: Nanotechnology for Health, Energy & the Environment

The multidisciplinary Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at Stony Brook University has a focus on the application of nanotechnology and nanomaterials to societal needs in health, energy, and the environment. The program is a summer research experience for academically talented undergraduates, qualified, motivated, and interested in the nanotechnology field. 

Turner Fellowship

The W. Burghardt Turner Fellowship is a Graduate Fellowship Program for qualified underrepresented students whose immediate academic plans include obtaining graduate or professional degrees in a variety of disciplines including the biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, medicine, humanities, engineering, and the arts. This fellowship is offered based on nomination by the candidate's department.
