- The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is searching for TWO postdoctoral fellows for the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management starting in the summer of 2025. One position will focus on Population Growth and Viability Modelling and the other will focus on Conservation Genomics. The two Postdocs will work in partnership with the Marmot Recovery Foundation (MRF), which is a charitable organization whose mission is to recover the wild population of the critically endangered Vancouver Island marmot.The two fellows will contribute novel applied research to advance marmot conservation by studying historical population trends, building population viability models to guide recovery efforts, genome sequencing to estimate diversity, inbreeding, and relatedness, and assist in developing the first genotype-informed conservation breeding program in Canada. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment between the department and IACS while engaging with Empire AI, which is a state-of-the-art AI computing center in New York State with an aim of facilitating statewide innovation, research, and development of AI technologies.
