Graduate Student Travel Fund 

This fund supports our graduate students by providing funding to defray some of the costs of conference attendance and travel. Here are some examples of how this fund was used to support our graduate students: 

 

During her second-year, then Ph.D. student Kay Kumar was awarded conference and travel funding when she presented her paper "You Are Not Your Illness: Narrativizing Identity in Disability and Illness Memoirs," at the 2019 Modern Language Association Annual Conference in Chicago.

"My research is focused on graphic narratives and deals with questions of accessibility, so this project speaks directly to these issues. As a 2nd year PhD student, being able to present at the MLA convention will aid my professional development and help me prepare for the job market."

 

Then fourth-year Ph.D. candidate Sara Santos was awarded conference and travel funding when she presented her paper "Looking in the Gutter: Clone Im/Mobility and Abject Medicine in Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go,"  at the 2019 Northeast Modern Language Association Annual Conference in Washington D.C.

"Presenting at a prestigious conference like NeMLA will expose me to a wider community of scholars within and adjacent to my fields of study, allowing me to expand my network of future collaborators."

 

 

Then fifth-year Ph.D. candidate Andrew Rimby was awarded conference and travel funding when he presented his paper "The Poisonous Yellow Book in The Picture of Dorian Gray" at the 2019 Northeast Modern Language Association Annual Conference in Washington D.C.

"By co-chairing and presenting a paper at NeMLA, I will be engaging with current queer theoretical trends and have been able to experience the process of formulating a panel theme"
