Staller Center welcomes trumpet star, pianist and composer Arturo Sandoval, appearing in our intimate
Recital Hall. The Cuban-born protégé of Dizzy Gillespie is the winner of ten Grammy
Awards, six Billboard Awards, an Emmy Award for his score for the HBO movie based
on his life, For Love or Country, and the 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom. Arturo
Sandoval is the acknowledged guardian of jazz trumpet and flugel horn. As a boy living
outside Havana, jazz artist Arturo Sandoval picked up a trumpet because it "has a
strong personality... a trumpet can whisper very soft, very tender—and it can create
a huge noise." |
