Stony Brook University, including Stony Brook Medicine and the Long Island State Veteran’s Home and all other Stony Brook University facilities and programs, is fully committed to the prevention and elimination of all forms of discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct. The Office of Equity and Access is charged with ensuring compliance with Stony Brook policy and state and federal laws that prohibit all forms of discriminatory behavior. The population served includes, but is not limited to, faculty, staff, students, patients, guests, vendors, and contractors associated with Stony Brook University.

Stony Brook policy and state and federal laws prohibit discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, disability, marital status, genetic information, criminal conviction, domestic violence victim status, veteran status and/or military status in employment or the administration of its policies, programs, or activities. This includes all terms, conditions, and privileges of employment and access for students, faculty, and staff. Stony Brook University's nondiscrimination policy affects all employment practices including, but not limited to, recruiting, hiring, transfers, promotions, benefits, compensation, training, educational opportunities, and terminations. Educational programs and activities covered include, but are not limited to admission, recruitment, financial aid, treatment and services, counseling and guidance, classroom assignment, grading, vocational education, recreation, physical education, athletics, housing, sanctions, discipline and employment as well as any other activity, opportunity or program. Also, no one shall be subject to retaliation for instigating or participating in a complaint process.

All members of the Stony Brook community are encouraged to promptly file complaints regarding discriminatory behavior or any perceived irregularities in recruitment and compensation. OEA is available to assist anyone who may wish to file a complaint.

OEA is also a resource to hiring managers and search committee members who require information and or training regarding the recruitment and search committee process.

Statement of the University Non-Discrimination Policy:

Consistent with federal and state guidelines, Stony Brook University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, age, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, or veterans' status in its educational programs or employment. If you are a student or an employee of Stony Brook University and you consider yourself to be a target of discrimination or harassment, you may file a complaint in writing with the Office of Equity and Access.  If you choose to file a complaint within the University, you do not lose your right to file with an outside enforcement agency such as the State Division of Human Rights, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or the Office of Civil Rights.
