Stony Brook University, a federal contractor is required to maintain and analyze data on the race, ethnicity, veteran and disability status of applicants and employees in compliance with federal regulations issued by the US Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contracts Compliance Program (OFCCP).  Your information will help us determine the composition of our workforce, measure our progress and improve the work experience of faculty and staff.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Why am I being asked to provide this information?
  SBU is a federal government contractor subject to laws regarding Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity.  These include Executive Order 11246, Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), and Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act. We are required to collect and report information on applicants and employees to assess our affirmative action efforts.
• Who is being surveyed?
  All Federal Contractors are required to survey their job applicants and employees.  The “Self-Identification of Disability” form is provided by the government.
• Will the disability information be stored in my personnel file?
  No. The data will be retained separate from your personnel file. This information is collected for the sole purpose of the AAP reports which are prepared each year.  Additionally, the self-identification does not require employees to specify the type of disability or to provide documentation of the disability.
• How will the information be used?

  The information will be used to comply with reporting requirements.  In the event of an external audit by the OFCCP, only summary data will be reported.

• Will I be asked to complete the survey in the future?

  Yes, we are required to invite all employees to voluntarily self identify every five years.  However, you can update your disability status at anytime in Solar or contact OEA for assistance.

• Am I required to complete the survey?
  No. While completing this form is voluntary, it is encouraged. We hope that employees who do not wish to share this information will still login to Solar. Your input helps strengthen and focus SBU efforts in assessing and improving our outreach, recruitment, hire and retention efforts.
• What if I’ve already provided this information before?
  Even if you’ve provided this information before either as an applicant or new hire, please review and designate your current status to ensure that SBU has your most current information. You may also change your status at any time in Solar  if your status changes.
• Can I change my Disability status in the future?

  Yes, because disability status can change at any time, you can update your status in Solar.
