Series 1: Beginning Stages of Your Pre-Health Journey
Series 1 is for anyone who is in their early stages of figuring out their pre-health path. These workshops/events are targeted toward students who are still deciding which area in healthcare they are interested in. In this series, you will learn about different programs offered at SBU and the general information of what it means to be pre-health at SBU.
Crafting Your Healthcare Journey: How to Gain Experiences and Plan Ahead Academically as a Pre-Health Student

Description: Are you a pre-health student seeking healthcare-related experience or interested in learning about the advising services at SBU to support your academic path and future planning?
I highly encourage all pre-health students to attend this virtual workshop which will be hosted by the Career Center and Academic Transfer and Advising Services (ATAS).
Whether you plan to attend graduate school, apply to professional programs, or enter the workforce, you will need experiences to showcase your passion, interest, and involvement in the field. This workshop will help students learn about experiences that can be gained on and off campus in areas such as volunteering, leadership, internships, and more. Additionally, you will be able to get your pre-health academic questions answered and learn about the services to support you. Come with questions and be ready to gain advice, resources, and assistance to support your academic journey and involvement in healthcare experiences!
Pre-Health Mixer: Network With Pre-Health Programs

Description: Practice your networking skills and meet representatives from different academic programs from Stony Brook! This networking event will allow you to learn different ways to be a competitive applicant and learn the admission requirements needed to apply to different health programs. This is a great way to explore various pathways to your desired healthcare field.
This network event will require registration which opens on April 2 on Handshake. Registration is first come, first serve. If you can not make the event after registering, you must contact us to cancel your registration, or a hold will be put on your Handshake account.
Series 2:Getting Ready to Apply To Health Graduate Programs
Series 2 is focused on preparing for future application cycles. Understanding how and when to apply is important and requires a lot of planning and preparation. This series will focus not only on the logistics of sending in applications to your desired program but also how to make a memorable impression to admission committees.
Writing the Personal Statement: Featuring the Writing Center
Date: Wednesday, March 6 at 1pm - 2pm | RSVP Here
Location: Melville Library W 4550
Description: The personal statement is a tool that you can use to inform admission representatives who you are as a candidate and express your passion to enter your chosen graduate program. The Writing Center will discuss tips on how you can start the process of articulating different ideas and thoughts that you can include in your personal statement to tell admissions officers what makes you unique.
Filling Out Medical and Dental School Applications
Date: Monday, April 29, 2024 at 1 pm to 2pm | RSVP Here
Description: This workshop will focus on how to fill out the application portals (AMCAS, AACOMAS, AADSAS, etc.) and the advisor will provide resources for your chosen health graduate profession. Students will learn how to calculate their GPAs that admission committees will look at, how to input coursework, and what the other sections entails for primary applications.
** These workshops are only open to Stony Brook students and alumni.**
Stony Brook University is an excellent place to prepare for a future in medicine, dental medicine, and other health professions. Students pursuing health careers can major in many different disciplines, and work closely with Academic Advisors to complete the best courses in preparation for a future in healthcare.
Students are encouraged to explore academic interests in and out of the sciences, engaging in intellectual inquiry, independent study, and disciplined research. Stony Brook applicants who have been successful gaining acceptances into some of the top schools in their field, are well rounded individuals with strong health related experiences and other diverse activities.
