Academic excellence at Stony Brook University doesn’t happen by accident. It’s thanks to the incredible efforts of our faculty, instructors, and staff.
Nominations are open for a variety of awards to recognize the exceptional work of our faculty and instructors. Please consider nominating a colleague to help us celebrate the amazing community of educators and mentors at Stony Brook.
Celebration of Teaching Awards – Deadline March 17, 2024, 5 p.m.
Eligibility: All Stony Brook educators who have taught an in-person or online course during the academic semesters: Summer 2023, Fall 2023, or Spring 2024, and have not been awarded in the same category in the past two years are eligible, except where otherwise indicated.
Who Can Nominate: Faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and staff are eligible to submit nominations, except where otherwise indicated.

- Excellence in Assessment Award
- Excellence in Inclusive Teaching – The David L. Ferguson Award for Inclusive Teaching

Provost’s Outstanding Mentor Award – Deadline March 24, 2024, 5 p.m.
Eligibility: This award recognizes senior faculty who have served as exemplary mentors. An outstanding mentor has demonstrated exceptional commitment to faculty mentoring of non-tenure track, pre-tenure and mid-career faculty. Full-time faculty mentors at the advanced Associate, or Professor rank are eligible to be nominated by their colleagues. Retired faculty are also eligible for nomination.
Who Can Nominate: Nominations may be submitted by the mentor’s department/academic unit chair, colleagues, or mentee(s).
