June 23, 2020: Additional Guidance - Studies Previously Placed on Hold
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Office of Research Compliance is providing guidance for research activities, effective June 23, 2020 and continuing until further notice.
Effective June 23, 2020, the Office of Research Compliance is determining what changes to human research need to be reported to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). This guidance applies to all ongoing research (including exempt research) that is conducted by Stony Brook University researchers.
If the Principal Investigator placed the study on hold through myResearch IRB, the PI will need to submit another amendment lifting the hold. Please note that the study should remain on hold until communication is received from the IRB that enrollment can resume.
If safe practices are being performed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the study team does not need to report these changes to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). These safe practices are part of Stony Brook Medicine or Stony Brook University policies/procedures. If there are additional procedures that the study team would like to put into place that are not part of institutional safe practices, the study team will need to amend the study to include these procedures.
