Red Watch Band CARE Team Member MVP
Fall 2016 - Ashley Olaffson
Ashley worked to reduce the number of college student deaths due to toxic drinking while also changing the social norms around drinking in college. In order to make this change Ashley organized six group trainings throughout the semester which resulted in over 150 of her peers being Red Watch Band trained. She also helped in conducting outreach at ten events throughout the semester. This hardwork and dedication lead to Ashley being voted Most Valuable Player of the CARE Team for the Fall 2016 semester.
In addition to these great accomplishments with the CARE Team, Ashley has grown into an outstanding role model for her peers. She has called for help in an alcohol related emergency for one of peers and then had the courage to share her story with the entire campus community via the Humans of Stony Brook program. Ashley’s positive attitude, determination and influence on her peers has helped to create a better community at Stony Brook University.
