"I am my brother's keeper, and together we will rise!"
Seven Things for Members of SAAB to Know
- Why do we dress in business attire?
We wear business attire to show that we are unified and to prepare ourselves for the business world—a world in which we may have to dress professionally every day for work.
- Why do we bring pens and paper to every meeting?
We bring pens and paper to every meeting to write down important information related to what is discussed each week. This prepares us for similar meetings we may have in the professional world.
- Why do we accept all males and females into our organization?
We accept all males and females into our organization because we value interests over exclusivity. If you are interested in assisting in the development of African American and Latino/Hispanic American men and the college experiences for men of colored, we want you!
- Why do we say the SAAB Affirmation at every meeting?
We are committed to promote the ideal of SAAB, which are accountability, pro-active leadership, self-discipline, and intellectual development. Reciting these principles at meetings reminds us of our commitment to these ideals.
- Why do we start everything on time?
We start everything on time because we will destroy the stereotype that all Black and Latino activities do not start on time. We also want to emulate the professional world, in which “to be early is to be on time; to be on time is to be late, and to be late is unacceptable.”
- Why do we pray at the end of every meeting?
We pray at the end of every meeting to give thanks to the Lord who has made us who we are today and who we can become tomorrow. Participation in prayer is voluntary and is not associated with the membership status participants or any participation in SAAB.
- Why do we pay dues?
We pay dues to help funding some of our programs and events. Without dues we could not cover the administrative and other expenses in our organization.
