Graduate Writing
The Program in Writing and Rhetoric’s graduate unit offers several educational opportunities, including:
1. The Advanced Graduate Certificate in Teaching Writing: Stony Brook University’s Program in Writing and Rhetoric offers the Advanced Graduate Writing Certificate that any SBU graduate students (and non-matriculated grad students) can complete with 15 credits of qualifying courses. We also offer the MA English Concentration in Writing and Rhetoric in collaboration with the English Department. For more details, click here.

2. English MA Concentration in Writing and Rhetoric: Offered in collaboration with the English Department, the English MA Concentration in Writing and Rhetoric is for English MA students who want to pursue doctoral degrees or professional careers that require/reward the additional knowledge base and skill set of an education in rhetoric and writing. 3. Graduate writing support initiatives (for all graduate students across campus): PWR also supports graduate students across campus with their writing needs by using a variety of initiatives. Often organized in collaboration with other academic units or departments, and in collaboration with the Graduate School and University Writing Center, some of these initiatives include: dissertation/thesis writing boot camps, graduate writing groups, graduate writing workshops. 4. Oral/Aural Academic English for graduate students (course-based support): This program is designed to help international doctoral students for whom English is not their first language, funded Masters' students and MBAs raise their English proficiency to a level that enables them to be able to teach, function in the business world, and present in English. Courses in/for other departments: In addition, PWR graduate faculty teach courses for specific departments, as well as providing consultation and resources/support for graduate students or faculty working with graduate students.
