Students may be eligible for college credit if you have taken standardized external
examinations such as AP, CLEP, IB, and A-Levels. To see if you are eligible for credit,
request that your official test scores be sent to Stony Brook's Undergraduate Admissions
Office. Test credits will not be accepted from high school transcripts. For more information
please visit the Stony Brook Undergraduate Catalog (formerly the Undergraduate Bulletin).
Please note a maximum of 30 credits by examination may be applied toward your degree.
AP Exams
Stony Brook accepts scores of 3 or higher for AP exams.
Students must request that their test scores be forwarded to Stony Brook University's

Stony Brook awards credit for the CLEP subject examinations only. No student may take
a CLEP exam in a subject matter that is a prerequisite for a course already passed,
or is similar in subject matter to a course taken.
Stony Brook accepts scores with an equivalent to a grade of C or better.
Students must request that their test scores be forwarded to Stony Brook University's
