Iron Chef 2013 Heats Up As Student Teams Battle for Victory

Stony Brook, NY, April 10, 2013 - Watch a cooking showdown of epic proportions as four student teams face off in Stony Brook’s version of the popular Food Network Show Iron Chef. The competition will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm in the Stony Brook Union Ballroom.

“Iron Chef is one of my favorite cooking events at Stony Brook,” said John Hutchison, Campus Dining Services Executive Chef. “It’s always a great time to see the creations our students cook up, and best of all the winnings go towards a worthy cause right here on campus.”

Each team will feature three students paired with a Campus Dining chef. The teams will showcase their culinary talents and if they win the competition, $5,000 will be donated to a Stony Brook charity of their choice in their name. Members of the Stony Brook community were able to vote for the four competing teams on the Campus Dining website stonybrook.edu/dining from March 29th through April 5th. The final four teams in this year’s Iron Chef Competition include Instagram’s Finest playing for the Sunrise Fund at Stony Brook, teams Bacon Strips and Chef Soyers both playing for Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and Victors of Your Heart playing for the General Scholarship Fund.

On April 5th, contestants were notified of this year’s theme, available cooking ingredients and the Campus Dining chef assigned to their team.

The judges include one Stony Brook staff member, two students, the Campus Dining Executive Chef, Campus Dining Manager and one mystery judge. Judges will taste and evaluate each entry according to its appearance, flavor, use of ingredients and originality. Members of the audience are given a collective vote the day of the event to rate the food based on its appearance and originality.

Campus Dining Services encourages the campus community to attend this head-to-head culinary arts competition and support their favorite team. This is one food fight you won’t want to miss!
