HPC and Simulation Science at RWTH – Infrastructure, Applications and Programming Models

The IT Center (ITC) is a central facility of RWTH Aachen University, operating HPC equipment and supporting the computational sciences, fundamental for RWTH's strategy. The ITC performs research and methodical support with a focus on Virtual Reality and High Performance Computing, committed to the enhancement of user productivity and application performance. This talk presents the infrastructure and methodical support offerings for simulation science at RWTH. It gives an overview about the application landscape at RWTH and explains how application development is supported by research in programming models and tools.

 

  

Bio

Matthias S. Müller is full professor for High Performance Computing at RWTH Aachen University and director of the IT Center at RWTH. His research interests include programming methodologies, software development tools and computational science on high performance computers. He is a member of ACM, ACM SIGHPC, the German Physical Society (DPG), the expert group of the European Exascale Software Initiative (EESI) and Vice Chair of SPEC’s High Performance Group. Christian Terboven received his Diploma and Doctoral degree from RWTH Aachen University. Since 2006 he is working as a research associate in the HPC group at the IT Center and the Chair for High Performance Computing at RWTH Aachen University. His research interests center around Parallel Programming – with a focus on Shared-Memory architectures, Paradigms, Programming Languages, and related Software Engineering aspects.
