STRIDE Brown Bag Lunch: Storytelling in Science

Effective science communication is important—especially when communicating with a non-scientist. Telling the story of science—the background, the reason that your research even happened, and the consequences of said research, or why your research matters. While a typical academic presentation is effective when the audience knows the background of the topic, when talking to non-scientists, or even those outside of your immediate area of science, it is imperative to let them know why the research matters before delving into your specific topic.

Stories, anecdotes, and narratives become valuable tools for the purpose of communicating your science and engaging your audience. Join Dr. Christine O'Connell, Associate Director at the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science,  for an informative talk on the art of storytelling in science.
