Effective science communication is important—especially when communicating with a non-scientist. Telling the story of science—the background, the reason that your research even happened, and the consequences of said research, or why your research matters. While a typical academic presentation is effective when the audience knows the background of the topic, when talking to non-scientists, or even those outside of your immediate area of science, it is imperative to let them know why the research matters before delving into your specific topic.
