The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is the world’s largest gathering of women technologists. The most recent conference took place October 19-21 in Houston, TX and was attended by over 11,000 people from more than 63 countries. Of these more than 2,000 were undergraduate students.
Women came from all around the globe to learn, exchange ideas and be inspired. Stony Brook University was represented at the conference by Recruiter Rosalia Davi, from both the Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS) and the Center for Inclusive Education (CIE), and core faculty member Professor Marivi Fernandez-Serra from both IACS and the Physics & Astronomy Department. Rosalia and Marivi worked together on the exhibition center, talking to a whole host of graduate and undergraduate students interested in academic and research opportunities at Stony Brook University. "It was fantastic to meet these students, and we also met many women who were alumni of SBU who are now working in high-tech companies like Facebook, Google, Amazon, Intel, IBM, etc.," said Professor Serra. On the very last day of the conference all these bright and inspirational SBU alumni gathered together at the booth to take a picture. It was certainly a cheerful celebration of women in computing and technology, and Stony Brook did not pass unnoticed!
