Being an engaged journalist or media professional means knowing where and how to find sources from different backgrounds, and with different experiences. It also means knowing how to be a culturally-sensitive, ethical reporter.
A Note about Software: Your reporting and storytelling abilities are what will get you jobs and internships, not the equipment that you use. Many professional journalism organizations use smartphones instead of thousand-dollar cameras and free or inexpensive software as well.
