Interested in becoming an Involvement Coach?

Stony Brook’s Department of Student Engagement and Activities looks for motivated student leaders to serve as Involvement Coaches for the Discover. Engage. Lead. Initiative.

Positions tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute general information sessions outlining various campus involvement opportunities for students 
  • Conduct one on one personalized meetings with students interested in getting involved on campus
  • Assist in the planning of and participate in fall and spring Involvement Fairs
  • Work closely with new first year housing communities
  • Participate in and support special events on campus as needed (such as: Orientation sessions,  etc.)
  • Develop engaging content for the program’s webpage and various social media outlets
  • Update, publicize and encourage participation in the ‘25 Things To Do Before You Graduate' campaign
  • Develop and host engaging programs targeted at increasing student involvement 
  • Assist the program with developing new initiatives and special projects as related to student leadership/involvement
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be enrolled as a matriculated undergraduate student at Stony Brook University
  • Must minimally be of sophomore class standing by the date of employment
  • Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25 
  • Applicants must maintain appropriate conduct standing. A sanction of University Probation or higher, or a sanction of restriction from holding leadership positions will disqualify candidates.
  • Availability of approximately 7-12 hours/week - could include evenings and weekends
  • A minimum one year commitment
  • Demonstrate passion and commitment to the program and its mission 
  • Be available for committee and staff meetings as well as trainings
  • Previous experience working collaboratively as part of a diverse team
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and to work autonomously
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbally, written, and interpersonally)
  • Available and willing to work in person and/or virtual events as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior leadership experience within a club or organization
  • Familiarity with SB Engaged/CORQ, & 25Live 
  • Ability to transport materials needed to various sites on campus. A rolling cart can be provided for assistance

Remuneration:

Students can earn academic credit, or can be paid via work study.
