This year, we are honoring:

Scott Abrams

Scott B. Abrams, P.E., is the founder, president and chief executive officer of The Omnicon Group, a worldwide engineering leader in designing, developing and delivering high reliability products and systems. Companies in safety, revenue and mission-critical industries, such as aerospace, communications, defense, energy, medical, and transportation, look to The Omnicon Group for innovative engineering solutions.

Scott is a recognized expert on reliability and has been dubbed “The Gizmo Doctor” by The New York Times, and “Mr. Reliability” by Long Island Business News. For over 30 years, he has contributed innovation and technology know-how to hundreds of commercial and government projects that ensure the safety and security of people around the world.

Founded in 1984, The Omnicon Group provides value to its global customer base in three key areas:

  • Design Innovation: systems, software, electronic hardware, specialized test equipment, and complete product development and manufacturing
  • Product Assurance: reliability, maintainability, safety, verification, validation, and testing
  • Program Execution: program management and program leadership, and risk identification and mitigation

Scott’s contribution to the field of reliability and technology has been recognized twice by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In 2014 he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Reliability and in a prior year he was named Reliability Engineer of the Year. Two other engineering leaders at the company also have been named by the IEEE as Reliability Engineer of the Year, making The Omnicon Group the recipient of more reliability awards than any other company in the world.

Scott has received other awards, including: The Alex Gruenwald Award from the IEEE in 2012 “for encouraging young people to pursue engineering and his exemplary leadership and technical contributions to reliability engineering;” Technology Entrepreneur and Rising Technology Leader Award from the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame in 2011; and 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award from Stony Brook University.

For three consecutive years, The Omnicon Group was named one of the fastest-growing technology companies by Deloitte & Touche, sponsor of the Long Island Technology Fast 50. In 1998, The Omnicon Group won its first award, the Administrator’s Award for Excellence from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Scott’s lifelong interest in leadership and its relationship to successful execution of complex advanced technology projects is highlighted by his active support of professional and educational organizations. He is an elected member of the IEEE Reliability Society Executive Committee and an appointed member of both the IEEE Committee on Transportation and Aerospace Policy and the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community. At the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Stony Brook University, Scott is a member of The Dean’s Council, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department’s Industrial Advisory Board, and the Friends of Women in Science and Engineering Advisory Board.

Scott received his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York University and his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Stony Brook University.
