CHEMICAL SAFETY
Modern healthcare environments may expose workers to various chemicals, from cleaners
to disinfectants, to hazardous drugs. Federal and state regulations, as well as Stony
Brook Medicine policies, protect workers’ right to know about the chemicals in their
workplace so that they can work safety with them and make decisions to protect their
health. Cornerstones on how chemical information is communicated to workers at Stony
Brook Medicine are training (e.g., from Supervisors, new employee orientation, and
annually required education), labels on chemical containers, and Safety Data Sheets
(SDSs). These pages provide additional information on working safely with chemicals.
