September is National College Fire Safety Month
Every year college and university students experience a growing number of fire-related
emergencies. In September 2005, The Center for Campus Fire Safety designated September
as Campus Fire Safety Month across the nation, with the goal to raise the level of
awareness among parents, students, administrators and legislators about the importance
of fire safety.
Throughout the month of September and October, the Department of Environmental Health
& Safety Fire Marshals have partnered with the Department of Residential Risk Management,
for our continued fire safety initiative. The goal of this partnership is to provide
educational programs and interactive demonstrations for the campus community. Additionally,
we have scheduled programs throughout residence hall quads that include a fire safety
lecture and live fire demonstration. This program known as “Heat & Heat” has proven
to attract vast amounts of Student’s with an increased awareness of fire safety.
Our annual Campus fire and safety day, has been scheduled for Wednesday October 19th, from 10:00-3:00 p.m. on the SAC Plaza. Please reference the links below for a complete schedule of fire safety activities,
in addition to resources providing fire safety information.
Please feel free to contact the University Fire Marshals office for any questions
or concerns. 631-632-9678.
