Recognition & Awards

Assessment Recognition

In collaboration with the Office of the Provost and the SBU Assessment Council, the Office of Educational Effectiveness supports the development and implementation of a university-wide recognition program in the assessment of student learning. This is accomplished through an annual assessment award and assessment recognition event to celebrate the achievements of faculty and staff who make significant contributions toward creating a culture of assessment at Stony Brook University.

Excellence in Educational Effectiveness Award

The Excellence in Educational Effectiveness (EEE) Award was established in 2022 to recognize members of the campus community who demonstrate a commitment to best practices in academic assessment and use assessment results to drive programmatic excellence.

Submit a Nomination for the 2024 EEE Award

Eligibility
All full-time and part-time faculty, staff,  instructors, assessment coordinators, and graduate teaching assistants are eligible for the award. Nominees should be integrally involved in the academic assessment activities within their program, department, school or college. Award recipients from the last three years are not eligible.

Nomination Process
Nominators are asked to submit a brief Google form and upload a letter of support (750 words or less) which addresses how the nominee demonstrates excellence in educational effectiveness. Nominators should describe the nominee's impact on the academic program or student experience, and select a category from the list below which most closely aligns with the nominee's contributions to assessment:

  • A commitment to creating a sustainable culture of assessment at SBU
  • Innovative, creative approaches to academic program assessment
  • Effective use of assessment tools, such as rubrics, curricular maps, etc.
  • A data-driven approach to program or curricular improvement
  • Interdisciplinary or collaborative academic assessment initiatives

Optionally, nominators may submit supplemental materials, such as the nominee's CV. Self-nominations are not permitted.  Nominations are due annually by March 1.

Selection Process
The SBU Assessment Council will review all nominations and make recommendations to the Provost who will select final award recipients.  The review process will be guided by a structured rubric using pre-determined evaluative criteria, which will be made publicly available shortly. Award recipients will be notified annually by April 1, and recognized at the Annual Assessment Recognition Event held in late Spring.
