Living on Campus

We highly encourage you to live on campus to smooth your transition as an international student to Stony Brook University and the United States.                                              
Stony Brook provides housing to more than 10,000 residents including undergraduates, graduates and families in 28 residence halls and 23 apartment style facilities. The Campus Residences homepage  provides a list of recommended items to properly furnish a student room. In addition there is a list of prohibited items that will not be permitted in any residence hall or apartment. For a full copy of these lists visit  the Things to Bring under Campus Residence. 

In addition, the University strongly recommends that every resident purchase Personal Property Insurance to protect their valuables from loss or damage as the University does not cover resident’s personal belongings. For more information visit the Campus Residences homepage.
