MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF

Hello and welcome to the Fire and Emergency Services website here at Stony Brook University.
I am honored and humbled to serve as the Fire Chief of this great organization. I
have the privilege of leading an amazing group of dedicated experienced firefighters
whose focus is to provide superior service to our campus community and medical center.
Our professional services include fire suppression, hazardous material, technical
rescue, fire inspection, emergency preparedness, fire prevention and public education
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
It is my hope you find our website as a valuable resource, for not only our students,
staff and faculty but our visitors alike. Fire and Emergency Services is a group within
the Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), a component of Stony Brook University’s Division of Enterprise Risk Management.
The dedicated men and women of Fire and Emergency Services are committed to the health
and safety of you and your family. We strongly champion public education, fire prevention,
and life safety towards that goal.
Stony Brook University Fire and Emergency Services operates out of one station located
on the Research and Development Campus. Our equipment is well maintained and always
ready to respond whenever the need arises. The department maintains one engine, one
quint (combination engine/ladder truck), one heavy rescue/special operations unit,
UTV, hazardous materials trailer and several support vehicles.
We continue to strive to achieve the highest levels of preparedness, prevention, quality
customer service and community involvement. As we evolve and our community continues
to grow by leaps and bounds, our mission to protect life and property at NY’s flagship
institution also transforms to one that is not merely limited to "traditional" fire
services but to encompass all threats and hazards to public safety.
If we can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us at any
time.
Dedicated to Superior Service,
John Gallo
