For part-time, on campus student employment, we ask for "Job Type" to be selected as "On Campus Student Employment". The option for "Job" is used for full-time positions for graduating students and alumni.

Viewing Applicants in Handshake for On-Campus Supervisors:
If there was a Stony Brook University student account in Handshake, on campus supervisors will need to request an Employer Account (view "Creating a Handshake Account Guide"). Once confirmed, you can click on your profile and select "Switch Users" then "Switch to Employer Account".

Supervisors can be trained on Stony Brook GROW (Guided Reflection on Work) and have brief, structured conversations to help student employees make connections between work experience, skills and academics.

WHAT ARE CAREER COMPETENCIES?
The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), through a task force of select professionals, identified eight competencies associated with career readiness: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork and Technology. The NACE Career Readiness Competencies are skills that prepares college graduates for success in the workplace.

RECOGNIZE CAREER-RELEVANT SKILLS
The Stony Brook University Career Center offers the ACES (Affirimg Competencies and Essential Skills) Program to the campus. Students with at least 50 hours in an experience (including, but not limited to, internships, leadership roles, on/off campus jobs, community service, co-ops) to receive recognition for the career relevant skills that they are gaining.
