DISCRIMINATION
Discrimination is unfair or prejudicial treatment based on characteristics such as race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, age, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, disability, marital status, familial status, pregnancy, genetic predisposition, criminal convictions, domestic violence victim status, and veteran or military status and all other protected classes.

Signs:
- A student is called a racial slur or other denigrating name
- Gender-based bullying or sexist remarks
- Discrimination in an activity, program, or other academic experience
- Discriminatory language posted in classroom, on-campus graffiti etc
What to do:
If you are in immediate danger contact UPD
Report the behavior to OEA
There are five ways to report discrimination:
- Online at www.stonybrook.edu/ReportIt;
- Email reportit@stonybrook.edu;
- Submit a complaint by fax at 631.632.9428;
- Stop by the Office of Equity and Access;
- Mail it to 201 Administration Building, Stony Brook, NY 11794
Important to remember
- Encourage reporting discriminatory behavior to OEA
- Connect students to Student Support Team to understand resources on campus
