Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

By simply completing and submitting your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you’ll be considered for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. This is a need-based grant available to undergraduate students. First priority for this grant is given to Federal Pell Grant recipients.  SEOG is a limited fund in which the Department of Education awards the university with a set amount of funds for the award.  Priority is given to students who file their FAFSA before the FAFSA priority deadline of March 15th.

Eligibility

Available to matriculated undergraduates who have NOT earned a First bachelor's degree and who demonstrate exceptional financial need as determined by the FAFSA.  You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen to receive federal aid.  Priority is given to students who file their FAFSA before the March 15 priority deadline.

Award Limits

Awards can range from $200 to $4000 per year.

The average yearly award at Stony Brook University is $500.  This is due to a limited amount of federal funding received for the program.
