New York State Aid Application

You will be able to link to your on-line Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application at the end of the FAFSA session if you file your FAFSA electronically, indicate that you are a New York State resident, and list at least one New York State academic institution. If you missed the NYS link, or you filed a paper FAFSA, you can apply directly at New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) TAP Application Online at hesc.ny.gov.

Most NY State scholarships are administered by NY State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). In order to be considered for most of these awards HESC typically requires the completion of a TAP application, even if the student/family income precludes the student from receiving TAP.

These are a few grants or scholarships offered by New York State.  For additional information on these awards please visit hesc.ny.gov.

• NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
  The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), New York's largest grant program, helps eligible New York residents attending in-state postsecondary institutions pay for tuition. TAP grants are based on the applicant’s and his or her family’s New York State taxable income.
• NYS Aid for Part Time Study (APTS)
  The NYS Aid for Part-time Study (APTS) program provides grant assistance for eligible part-time students enrolled in approved undergraduate studies. Students in non-degree workforce credential programs are also eligible to apply for TAP.
• NYS Excelsior Scholarship
  The program covers tuition for eligible SUNY and CUNY students. For the 2024-25 academic year, families who earned $125,000 or less in the tax year 2022 are eligible to apply.
• NYS Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Incentive Program (STEM)
  The NYS STEM Incentive Program provides awards for full-time students attending an undergraduate program at the State University of New York (SUNY) for the top 10 percent of students in each New York State high school if they pursue a STEM degree in an associates or bachelor degree program and agree to work in a STEM field in New York State for 5 years after graduation.
• DREAM Act
  The New York State DREAM Act gives undocumented and other students access to New York State administered grants and scholarships that  support their higher education costs.  For further information and/or to see if you qualify, please visit hesc.ny.gov/dream
